Information for Applicants

We are delighted that you have applied to join New College. We are proud of our three colleges, of the unique young adult learning experience they provide, and of our track record of achieving outstanding results.

Why New College?

New College Pontefract was proud to be awarded ‘Sixth Form College of the Year’ and ‘FE Provider of the Year’ in 2020-21 by the Times Education Supplement. Ofsted have also graded the college as ‘outstanding’ for the second time in 2023.

New College Doncaster was proud to have been graded ‘Outstanding’ in its very first Ofsted inspection and to be the highest performing A level provided in Doncaster in the most recently published government performance tables. Achievement rates position the college fourth out of all sixth form colleges in the country in the most recently tables.

New College Bradford opened in 2019, offering a distinctive and high quality learning experience for young people in the area, with record levels of students joining the college and achieved the best possible judgement in its recent Ofsted monitoring visit.

What happens next?

You’ll receive an invitation in the post inviting you take part in an admissions interview. These take place on a number of evenings spread throughout the year so don’t worry if it’s a while until your interview takes place. Our provisional dates for 2022/23 are:

New College Bradford:

29 November, 24 January, 7 March, 25 April, 16 May and 6 June.

New College Doncaster:
8 November, 13 December, 17 January, 28 March and 6 June.

New College Pontefract:
6 December, 10 January, 31 January, 21 March and 6 June.

Students will normally receive their invitations around a week before the interview evening they have been allocated. The evening you are allocated will depend on when you applied and how many students are awaiting interview.

What to expect in your admissions interview?

Your interview will be very informal so it’s something you should feel relaxed and confident about. The primary aim of your admissions interview is to help identify the courses that will suit you best when you enrol with us.

During your interview we will talk to you about:

  • Any plans and ideas you have for the future study or employment
  • The courses you are interested in studying
  • How things are going at school, and the grades you’ll need to achieve for your chosen subjects

We’ll also be able to offer you advice and guidance about subject choices, and answer any questions that you might have.

We know that some students will have changed their mind about the subjects they want to study after completing their application forms. That’s not a problem at all, and your admissions interview is one of several opportunities to change your subject choices.

Subject choices

If you’re not sure about which subjects you’d like to study, we’d recommend that you take a close look at our prospectus in advance of your interview, to find out a little bit more about what’s available to you.

Enrichment

New College is not just about achieving amazing results, it’s also about helping students to gain new experiences and widen their horizons. Why not check out our enrichment brochures to give you a flavour of the things you can get involved in when you join New College?
