COVID-19 Guidance

September 2023

NCLT guidance in relation to staff, students and children who have symptoms of COVID-19 is based on guidance from the NHS website https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/covid-19/covid-19-symptoms-and-what-to-do/

If you have mild symptoms such as a runny nose, sore throat, or mild cough, and feel well enough, you can continue to attend work, school, or college. Staff, students, and parents should make a decision about whether they or their child feels well enough to attend, as with all flu-like symptoms.

As is the case with all illnesses, if a member of staff or a student does not feel well enough to attend, or if they have a high temperature/fever (above 38 degrees Celsius), they should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can go back to their normal activities when they do feel better and do not have a high temperature/fever.

There is no longer any requirement for people to carry out a rapid lateral flow test if they develop symptoms and the NHS is not advising individuals to carry out a lateral flow except those eligible for treatment for COVID-19 and who are provided with them by the NHS. This applies only to individuals who are personally at the highest risk of getting seriously ill from COVID-19, and further details are available at Treatments for COVID-19 – NHS (www.nhs.uk). We would advise that COVID tests provided during the pandemic should be disposed of as most will now be out of date.

If you have tested positive, you should

  • Try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 3 days after the day you took the test if you are under 18 years old
  • Try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days after the day you took your test if you are 18 years or over
  • Avoid meeting people who are more likely to get seriously ill from viruses, such as people with a weakened immune system, for 10 days after the day you took your test

There is no longer a legal requirement for individuals who test positive to isolate.

As with any other illness, and in line with government guidance, any student, or staff absence due to COVID-19 will affect your recorded level of attendance.
